Fiji Under 20s make winning start to Junior World Trophy

Fiji feeds the ball to the backs in their first up win over Hong Kong at the Junior World Trophy.

The Fiji Under 20s rugby team have opened their Junior World Trophy campaign win a comfortable 26-7 victory over Hong Kong in Montevideo.

The Baby Flying Fijians led 7-0 at halftime thanks to a seventh minute try from lock and captain Temo Mayanavanua, converted by first five Fabiano Navabale.

Hong Kong levelled the scores with a try eight minutes into the second half but were reduced to 14 players when Gregor Ramage was sent to the sin bin.


Victorious Black Ferns arrive home

The victorious Black Ferns have landed back in Auckland, after reclaiming the Rugby World Cup.

In a thrilling final in Belfast last Saturday, the women in black defeated the defending English side 41-32.

The five-time world champions touched down about 10.30am today, carrying their trophy into Auckland Airport.

The players said they were happy to be home.

Proud family members and friends gathered around the arrivals hall, excited to see their loved ones.


Labour pledges to review NZ's Pacific migration policy

New Zealand's main opposition party has promised to review Pacific migration policy and recognise the five main Pacific languages in the education system, if elected.

Labour's Pacific Affairs spokesperson, Aupito William Sio, said the migration policy will be reviewed for small Pacific nations like Tuvalu, Tokelau and Kiribati which feel the brunt of climate change.


Only Samoa and Guam left in Pac Games race

Samoa and Guam are in a two-horse race to host the 2019 Pacific Games after a lack of government support ruled Tahiti out of contention.

The Pacific Games Council has visited Samoa and Guam in the past fortnight to evaluate their bids but said with no government support forthcoming in Tahiti their initial expression of interest cannot be evaluated further.

Papua New Guinea's rival football factions have been in discussions.

The PNG Football Association's National Soccer League playoffs were cancelled earlier this month after PS United pulled out of their semi final match-up against Madang.

Only six teams completed the NSL season, while 12 took part in the National Premier League run by Football Federation PNG, which is not recognised by Oceania Football or FIFA.


Issues delaying high speed internet

The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce is calling on the government to quickly resolve issues delaying the installation of a high speed internet cable.

The Solomons currently relies on expensive satellite bandwidth for its internet, and a proposed submarine cable between Sydney and Honiara has been fraught with controversy.

Most of it is linked to the government's selection of Chinese company Huawei to instal the cable.
