Olympic torch auction nets over $US12,000 for Vanuatu athletes

The auction of the Olympic torch from the Sydney 2000 Games has raised over 12,000 US dollars towards the Vanuatu athletes competing in the Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila in December.

Up to 225 people attended the Carbine Club luncheon and auction earlier this month at the Warwick Le Lagon Hotel in Port Vila.

Mini Games ticket prices

Over 70 per cent of tickets for the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu will cost less than four US dollars.

More than 35,000 tickets will go on sale to the public next month.

Vanuatu 2017 Pacific Games CEO Clint Flood says there are over 25 different types of tickets available, including a Games pass that can be shared by family or friends or a single day ticket.

Opinion - Fresh off a very unusual off-field week for the All Blacks came news that the greatest one of all was gone: Colin Meads, All Black, died on Sunday aged 81.

Meads, the man who has a lock on the title of greatest player of all time. Meads, the tight forward who ran down the field clutching the pill like some kid making do with a pencil case for a lunchtime game. Meads, the player who sorted things out the old-fashioned way and became a legend for it.

Papua New Guinea's prime minister says he's looking to revive a proposal to reserve 22 seats in the country's parliament for women.

No women were elected in recent elections, making Papua New Guinea one of the few countries with no female representation.

According to the newspaper, The National, Peter O'Neill told a business breakfast in Port Moresby last week he found this result disappointing.

The Cold Islanders: Art on the Spectrum

A collection of work touching on the personal experiences of New Zealand-born Pacific artists will feature in a new exhibition in New Zealand's Waikato region.

'The Cold Islanders: Art on the Pacific Spectrum' has 29 artists on board, exploring a range of mediums, from photography, video and painting.

Curator Leafa Wilson said the idea of 'The Cold Islanders' came from Pacific people migrating and adjusting to the cooler climates of Aotearoa.

Defending champions Fiji are claiming underdog status at the Men's Under 19 Cricket World Cup qualifiers, which get underway in Samoa today.

The Baby Blues swept their East Asia Pacific rivals two years ago to qualify for a maiden World Cup appearance in 2016, where they finished in last place.

Fiji have three players returning who took part in the previous qualifying and World Cup campaign.
